Although classes can be taught in other locations across campus, they are usually taught in Library room 203. This room, the Library Instruction and Research Center, includes 25 computers, an overhead projector, a teacher's station, and a laser printer. This electronic environment allows for demonstration and hands-on instruction in the use of and search techniques for the many online resources available in the library.

The Computer Competency Requirement's mission is to ensure the Undergraduate students at St. Edward's University are capable of demonstrating Knowledge about basic computer skills that are used in most classroom environments. Module 3: Basic Library Research is required to help ensure students have some basic research skills using the computer based library resources.

In the case of discipline-specific classes, faculty members should contact the appropriate Library Faculty Liaison.

The sessions need to be scheduled at least two weeks in advance in order to ensure the availability of a librarian, access to the library classroom, and preparation of materials.

Faculty Attendance
The professor must attend the library instruction session. Students are more engaged when the instructor participates in the library session by adding comments to the discussion to help students focus on course objectives and answering questions about the assignment. Your attendance also ensures that you are aware of the sources and issues discussed.

• If the library instruction will focus on a specific library assignment, plan the timing of the library session to coincide with the timing of the assignment.
• Work with library faculty to design an appropriate assignment and library session that will meet class goals.
• Explain the goals of the library instruction session to students.
• Plan to attend the instruction session with your class and to add comments to the discussion to help students focus on course objective.
• Provide syllabus and assignment information (due date, types of materials required, taboo or limited topics, etc.)
