The grandeur of the Main Building was softened under a mantle of snow on February
11, 1963. The National Weather Service officially reported a one inch snowfall
for Austin that day. This rare weather event was commented on in the February
22 issue of the Hilltopper that year.
“SNOW, SNOW, SNOW and more snow. The biggest blizzard to hit Austin in
SEVEN years. An estimated two and one half million snow flakes fell.” Hilltopper
February 22, 1963.
