Scarborough-Phillips Library Dedication, February 12-14, 1982
Thanks in large part to a generous donation by the Scarborough-Phillips family,
the St. Edward’s University library building, originally constructed in
1954, was renovated, expanded and reopened as the current facility in October
1981. Constructed around the original structure, the new building was dedicated
over a three day period in February 1982. On Friday and Saturday nights, February
12 and 13, the Omni Singers, under the direction of Brother Gerald Mueller, performed
a program of song and dance called “A Little Night Music” in the
second floor reading area of the new library addition. The actual dedication
took place on Sunday, February 14 and featured a keynote address by Vartan Gregorian,
president of the New York Public Library.
