The St. Edward’s Military Academy was established on campus during
World War II as a military training and research unit. The unit was part of the
Texas State Guard and followed the directive of the war department. The unit was
caught on film as it marched in the 1945 Armistice Day parade in downtown Austin.
“Bright colored Armistice Day decorations were the setting, the day before
yesterday, for the first peace- time parade in which the Cadet Corp of St. Edward’s
Academy has ever participated. In dress uniforms with dress garrison caps, the
Cadets assembled downtown at Second Street at 10 a.m. and were given first place
in the third division that consisted of seven sections. The parade began at 10:40
and passed up Congress to the Capitol.”
