Senior Cottages
Photograph donated by St. Edward’s alumnus Robert H. Stavinoha, ‘31
The senior cottages shown in this photograph were built in 1928 to accommodate
a “big enrollment.” Each cottage had accommodations for studying and
sleeping, as well as rudimentary bathroom facilities. Some even had showers. The
cottages, which housed senior honors students, were located to the west of Holy
Cross Hall and were popularly called the "shacks." They are believed
to have been razed in 1957-58 when Andre Hall was built. The names of the automobile
driver and his little dog are unknown.
“The enrollment for the current school year shows a substantial increase,
having reached 250 at the end of the first week. If late registrations and additional
registrations for the second semester come up to the figures of former years,
the enrollment for the entire year promises to be well over the three hundred
mark” The St. Edward’s Echo, October 3, 1928
