The SEU “E” was originally constructed on the hillside where East
Hall currently stands during Freshman Week 1962 (note the freshmen wearing beanies).
“A gigantic rock structure, laid out in the form of an “E” and
over 80 feet long was one of the projects listed for the freshmen. This campus
monument was completed, on a voluntary basis, on the last day of Frosh Week. It
will serve as a tribute to an energetic and enthusiastic group of young men.”
Hilltopper, September 28, 1962.

The “E” was destroyed during the building of East

The freshmen class of 1966 reconstructed the “E”
on the wooded hillside north of the Congress Avenue entrance. The SEU “E”
was permanently dismantled in 1990 due to vandalism and lack of maintenance. |
