Lesson
2:
Getting Started |

|
Selecting
a topic is the first step in the research process.
If
you are having trouble deciding on a topic, talk with your instructor
first. He/she can probably offer suggestions.
When choosing
a topic, think about the following:
 |
what
is the prescribed length of the assignment?
Some topics are too complex for a 3 page paper. |
 |
when
is the assignment due?
If your paper is due tomorrow morning, it might be a good idea to
pick a topic supported by an abundance of readily available books
and periodical articles. |
 |
how
much information is available on the topic?
Topics that are obscure, extremely recent, or are of limited,
local interest may be very difficult to support research-wise. |
Once
you have a topic, librarians here can help determine
if there is enough material available to research
your topic adequately.
